As a well-known primatologist who conducts and leads research on western lowland, mountain, and Grauer’s gorillas, Patrick Mehlman has spent the last decade living and working in central Africa.
He currently leads a Conservation International community conservation program that explores new approaches to biodiversity conservation, in particular encouraging local people to act as environmental stewards through development incentives.
Patrick received his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Toronto, Canada, and has published extensively on gorillas and a number of monkey species. He makes his home in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
